Hey friends! I just want to introduce Alexis, my awesome intern from this past spring semester. She came to me here in Indianapolis as a new freshman in college eager to learn and grow from me as her photography mentor. Alexis is a Public Relations major at IUPUI longing to get into photography more and understand business. She got to see the nitty gritty of business as a sole entrepreneur from all angles. The amazing thing about Alexis is that she is so self motivated. I just love her hard working spirit because she was not forced to do an internship for school yet she asked me to. I said yes for the first time because I love teaching. I still teach. In fact, I’ll be teaching K-1st graders two days a week this fall. Teaching is part of my blood. It fills me with joy to teach and guide those who love photography, too. It pushes me to grow and excel in my own photography journey, and it excites me to see others learn and develop new skills. Feel free to support Alexis online and encourage her newly started business. Her photography business is on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/alexishendricksphotography/.
I photographed the photos on this post during a mentoring photography session I hosted for another beginning photographer. In case you didn’t know, I am an Indianapolis mentor photographer, too! I host photography classes and mentoring opportunities. You can find more information and pricing by clicking here. It was a great learning experience for both ladies, plus Alexis got to be on the other side of the camera and learn from me in that way plus she some great headshots out of it!! Win. Win! 🙂 Here is what Alexis said after I asked her what she learned from me photographing her…
“I learned how you make the client transition from each set up very easily. It was very natural and I loved how you talked to us while being photographed. It made me feel comfortable. I also loved how you allowed me to create my own poses then made suggestions. You captured who I was by doing that.”
By the way, here’s a few of the amazing photos she took of me and my puppy, Charlee! I just love them dearly!!!!
Alexis, thank you for all of your help! You were such a joy to have with me. Thanks for the behind the scenes pics and video of me, the photos of me and Char Char (above) and for all of your help and input!! AND…thank you for your kind words about your photography internship with me. I just love and appreciate your sweet heart…
“Jill, I want to give you a HUGE thank you for taking me under your wing this semester! I have learned A LOT from you and truly look up to you! The way you hold down a family with 4 kids, your business, and faith is truly amazing to me. I am so overwhelmed and thankful that God allowed us to cross paths. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I really enjoyed working with you because you’re very knowledge about the field, rather if it’s the business side of things or actually the photography. You have been a great mentor to work with when it comes to learning about your camera and the different types of lens. I loved watching you edited photos. The best part for me was shadowing you at your shoots. It was phenomenal to me because I saw how you made your clients feel comfortable. Overall, my experience has been fabulous. I can’t wait to come in and help/shadow you later on!”
